Bring Ghosts back to Life

  • Since the ancient times Travian used to have 2 separate buildings to upgrade the Attack and Defense Stats of the units. This meant that Offensive players would build the Blacksmith and Defensive players the Armory. Besides this difference there was a significant change resulting from this split. Offensive troops were actually easier to kill. Some might argue that Travian Kingdoms favors a defensive play-style instead of an offensive one and this might sound counter-intuitive at first because you are "hurting" the offenders at first glance. But you are allowing for Ghost Armies to actually be a threat again. On top of the Defensive Bonus that the Smithy currently gives to Offensive units, you might have to face a Lvl 20 Wall and Lvl 20 Water Ditch. So this opens a long closed door for a different style of Offensive play that has been almost forgotten.

I would like to add some images to this thread to further back up my point but my noobness doesn't allow me to post images. :D

  • What a Ghost Army is supposed to do:

    What it does:

Legend has it that TTs were not just raiders and failed attempts of Ghosting and mockery like the following example:

Even though the reports are mine credit goes to Baron Max for telling me how to up properly upload images to the forum :D

  • whats a ghost army

What is shows in the pictures. A offensive army of fast horses. Mostly used to take out enemy hammers (mostly teut rammers cause clubs are lovely defending units). Ghosts can be used in many other ways but less fun.

Some things are better left unsaid.

Which I generally realize right after I have said them.

  • It's an army made out of fast horses like TT and EI meant to catch sleepy offensives and unguarded Catas. But as you can tell by looking at the above reports the fact that they have to hit Walls and Offensive troops with their defense values upgraded means that they are not the threat that they used to be.

Therefore I'm suggesting that de developers separate the Smithy to the Blacksmith and Armory again in order to unleash this threat to the game again :)

  • That would certainly be fun for attackers but i doubt the developers would ever do that.

Elite attackers are like <10% of the game population, most are casual sim players that do not have duals and are not online all the time.

Casual players tend to rage quit and never come back again if they keep dying. To preserve the player base, they are always going to make the game favour more laid back, defensive play styles.

  • Casual players are probably playing defense already. This won't hurt the casual player unless he chooses to play offensive and doesn't send the troops out for a walk during his/her offline time. Which as you might know is never recommended.

It will make it more appealing for a Ghost account because you actually can hit more than 1 target throughout the server.

For the time being they are like WWK. You hit 1 big off and you're done for the server.

Also if you like the game and want to learn it you learn from your mistakes. This helps and hurts offensive at the same time, therefore the balance remains. I don't believe "casual players" will be hurt with this update if it ever comes live. I mean, they must be getting beaten already as it is :saint:

love the idea but the issue is building space when it come to governors :D

we already begging developers for more tiles inside the city :D

(i think when u upgrade village to city u need at least 5 added tiles for the 500 pop increase :D

  • That's actually a good point Gown ! The fact that you get 500 pop should allow you to build more stuff !

I guess you would have to do it the old way, If you play Def you build Armory, if you play Off Black Smith. Doesn't make sense to upgrade the defense of your Hammer since your goal is to attack with it, not defend anyways :)

But I guess they want you to spend Gold on the Card Games to get your Extra Building Slots and that's ok for me ^^

No money for gold , card game r becoming like my life in Vegas :D

  • VIOLENCE 59 we have been talking about this possibility in the team.

It was decided that this would have to many collateral damage on the game balancing. It would change things too much and not in a positive way.

So it would not be possible to implement this changes at this point.

  • Thanks for giving a thought on it anyway !

It would change things too much and not in a positive way.

The initial versions of the game had this implemented and in my opinion it was a good thing. Either you played Deff or Off. I'm assuming the issues you are referring to would be the actual implementation of this idea and not the playability itself because this would actually lead to more specialization oriented strategies. In other words, open more possibilities, not leave doors closed like they currently and for a while now have been.

Guess I have to live with the fact I and other Ghost-Army fans cant play Ghost-Style since its a weak type of account specialization who has little to no impact on the server.

Was worth giving it a try though, thanks for your reply :)
